Strandhotel Zoomers is located by the sandy dunes of the beach in Castricume, in the north of Holland. The building, with its colorful wooden facades, was completed by Breddels Architecten in early 2020, and now The Other Season has infused the hotel’s interiors with a warm natural palette.

“For the floors, doors and furniture in all 12 rooms, we chose natural materials such as bamboo and wood to tie the hotel’s exterior and interiors together, while shades of green and beige highlight the beauty of the local landscape,” the designers explain.

All rooms have simple white walls and concrete ceilings and are furnished with furniture and accessories from the local designer brand HK Living. Large beds are decorated with striped taupe or burgundy pillows and sand-colored linen bedspreads. Bamboo-paneled cabinets complement wicker chairs by the windows. Seashell décor is complimented with amber vases and large lamps, which depict delicate outlines of faces.

Strandhotel Zoomers does not have a restaurant, but there is a cozy breakfast room where guests can enjoy drinks and snacks. The platter rack is made of wood, as is the cupboard and central dining table surrounded by white wire mesh chairs.

On the list of Martyn Lawrence-Bullard celebrity clients there are Cher, Tommy Hilfiger and Elton John. The designer’s interiors are always at the crossroads of eras and styles, so when it became known about the PRG group’s plans to open a boutique hotel in the Whitley Heights area in Los Angeles, it was decided to invite him as the project designer.

The Prospect Hollywood Hotel is located in an elegant 1939 Regency building. Celebrities used to buy apartments in this building, but later it became unsuitable for habitation.

Bullard’s project carefully restored historical details, such as stucco on the walls and ceiling, are combined with modern details. The courtyard is surrounded by gardens, it immerses guests in the atmosphere of the old district. Unlike many modern luxury hotels in steel and glass, Prospect Hollywood looks like a modest residence with striped awnings over the windows and a cherry red front door.

Inside the hotel everything is different: the restrained England is replaced by bright Hollywood. Marble floors with geometric patterns, emerald green walls and gilded pilasters palm trees emphasize Bullard’s desire to return to the golden age of 1930-1940s in America. Velvet banquets are combined with brass accents, bright decorative pillows and objects of modern art.

“We are located in the heart of Los Angeles, but surrounded by major hotel chains. They don’t feel like a real Hollywood”, the designer notes.

In this project Bullard was inspired by the work of Billy Haines and Tony Duquette. The designer himself admits: “I have been fascinated by this style for a long time, I studied it a lot and even lived in Whitley Heights many years ago.”

The hotel has 24 rooms, designed with custom-made wallpapers, leopard print carpets, antique furniture and many works of art – there are no rules for Bullard, and surprises are waiting around every corner. Their design is inspired by Hollywood icons. So, in the Mata Hari suit, one of Bullard’s favorite rooms, there are old movie posters and photographs by Greta Garbo hang on the walls with chinoiserie-style wallpapers. In each suit you can find small souvenirs from the past, such as old postcards and movie tickets.

The pieces of art for the Prospect Hollywood hotel have been delivered from a variety of locations, including the Texas Round Top Antiques Fair. The designer bought a collection of old French paintings there. “I wanted everything to look like some crazy old artist came here in the 1930s and paid for the hotel stay with his paintings,” he says.

CHALET, ZALLINGER, SOUTH TYROL

NOA Architecture Studio has built seven alpine chalets in the popular Zallinger resort in South Tyrol. This mountainous area in the Swiss Alps began to be developed in the middle of the XIX century – there were only seven huts, which were subsequently replaced by one large building, and the church, which has survived to our time. Designing a project for the further development of the resort, the architects decided to “go back to the roots”: this is how seven new designer chalets in the traditional Alpine style and a large welness zone appeared in Zallinger, and the old building, in which the hotel is located today, was reconstructed.

QUADRUM SKI & YOGA RESORT, GUDAURI, GEORGIA

The four-star boutique hotel is built of freight containers, cascading down the slope of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range at an altitude of 2200 m. It is about two and a half hours from the capital of Georgia, but in Gudauri there is enough entertainment. Almost every room has access to the terrace, which offers a dazzling view of the mountain peaks. Guests are welcome to use the 24-hour lobby bar, pool and sauna. The hotel has a ski storage room, and the nearest ski lift is just a five-minute walk away.

LES GRANDES ALPES HOTEL, COURCHEVEL, FRANCE

Les Grandes Alpes was built in 1948 and became the first hotel in the French resort of Courchevel 1850, having opened its doors simultaneously with the launch of the first lift. Its good location – and it stands in the very center of an alpine village near three ski slopes – has made it a favorite vacation spot for tourists from all over the world. Today it is a modern hotel with designer interiors by the French decorator Jean-Marc Mouchet, comfortable rooms and public areas furnished with Italian brand Flexform furniture.

THE HIDE HOTEL FLIMS, FLIMS, SWITZERLAND

Swiss resorts like Verbier, St. Moritz or Zermatt overshadow the less famous ski regions, as, for example, Flims. But this charming alpine village should not be underestimated: together with the villages of Lax and Falera they form a single ski area, one of the largest in the country. With the opening of the new four-star hotel The Hide Notel Flims, there are more reasons to visit Flims instead of the popular Gstaad. The concept of the new Design Hotels group hotel was invented by the Norwegian designer Erik Nissen Johansen together with the owner Günter Weilguni.

CALDERA HOUSE, TITON VILLAGE, WYOMING, USA

The hotel is located in one of the most picturesque ski resorts in America – Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, a five-minute drive from the famous Grand Teton National Park. You can buy equipment directly at the hotel: the experts of the sports boutique will offer the best new products and help with the choice. After skiing and hiking in the mountain valley, you can relax in one of the eight spacious chalet-style suites, swim in the heated pool or enjoy a dry sauna.

PANGEA, BRITISH COLOMBIA, CANADA

The capsule hotel was opened by amateur travelers in one of the largest resorts in Canada – Whistler. It absolutely does not look like a typical mountain chalet, which does not prevent it from competing with classic alpine luxury. Instead of the usual rooms here are the so-called 4.6 m² capsules, which can accommodate only a double bed. On the third floor there is a bright lounge area where you can enjoy a cocktail or craft beer and play board games, and on the roof there is a small patio with picturesque mountains.

HOTEL SCHGAGULER, CASTELROTTO, ITALY

This small designer hotel is located in a small alpine village surrounded by the Dolomites. The building was built 50 years ago and was recently restored, complemented by geometric facades of glass and white concrete and minimalist interiors. The rooms and suites are on the upper floors, while the Mediterranean restaurant and bar with a spacious terrace are on the ground floor. The underground level is entirely reserved for a luxurious spa, where you can relax after skiing and long walks.

EL LODGE, ANDALUSIA, SPAIN

This ski hotel is in the spirit of Scandinavian hut is surrounded by the stunning mountains of the Sierra Nevada near Maribel resort. The lift takes guests directly to the ski slopes at the peaks of Borregiles and El Veleta. The hotel is ideal for families: on the ground floor there is a kids club where a nanny can sit with a child and teach him/her how to ski. After a day in the mountains, you can head to the wellness spa or stay in your room and watch a Christmas comedy.

Megeve ski resort is just an hour away from Geneva and has been popular with fans of winter sports for more than a hundred years. In 1916, Baroness Noemi de Rothschild decided to create a French St. Moritz here, and in 1927 the French architect Henry Jacques Le Même built a chalet for it, which was called Chalet Noémie. Initially, it was a private home of the Rothschild family, where they came for holidays. In 1960, Edmond de Rothschild acquired the neighboring Chalet Eve, and in 2005 a third house, Chalet Alice, was built. Today Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois is a fashionable Alpine hotel that recently underwent a complete renovation and a year ago reopened its doors for tourists as part of the Four Seasons international chain.

Another new chalet, which appeared in the collection of designer mountain villas of the popular ski resort Megeve, belongs to the Ultima Colection network. Ultima Megève can accommodate up to 18 guests and has a total area of 1,500 sq m. Each suite has a separate bedroom with a bathroom. The building also has a wine cellar, a cinema, a nightclub and a spa with a hammam, massage rooms and fitness facilities. Among the luxury services there is a helicopter transfer from Geneva Airport directly to the doorstep, which is organized by the concierge service.

REICHHALTER BOUTIQUE HOTEL, LANA, TRENTINO, ITALY

In the mountain Italian town of Lana, Trentino region, there is a small Reichhalter boutique hotel with a cozy atmosphere. Modest furnishings, good furniture and lovely vintage details like Viennese chairs or a retro receiver attract lovers of simplicity and good design from all over the world to this very democratic place. The on-site restaurant serves local cuisine, while bicycles are provided during the off-season. The nearest major city is Merano.

It seems that Gordon Ramsay is great at everything – from juicy steaks and other English classics to dishes of high French, and now Japanese cuisine. The famous British chef has opened a new restaurant, Lucky Cat, which serves Asian sushi. The interiors in jet black were designed by AfroditiKrassa.

The main source of inspiration for designers was “kissas” – jazz bars in Tokyo in the 1930s. “We wanted to collect an unusual reference,” says studio founder Aphroditi Krassa. “Everyone associates Japanese restaurants with a certain style, but when we discovered these jazz bars, we realized that Tokyo had its own mysterious and atmospheric world. Kissas was a cross between gentlemen’s clubs and illegal eateries. “

The central dining area features dark wood flooring and an ink-black ceiling. The walls are decorated with bamboo panels, also painted in black or linen screens. Spherical lamps and copper sconces cast a soft dim light, creating a cozy twilight.

The restaurant also has three functional areas: The Raw bar, which serves exclusively sushi and sashimi, a chef’s table from where visitors can watch the cooking process, and a private room for special occasions.

Playful references to the name of the restaurant are found everywhere in the interior details, from stone cat figurines to tail-shaped hooks where guests hang their bags. The design of the back wall of the bar, decorated with 300 “maneki-neko” figures, which are considered symbols of good luck in Japan, also attracts the eye. www.afroditi.com

Sir Victor is a new design hotel inspired by the people, culture and landscape of Barcelona.

Sunny Barcelona extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the Collserola Mountains, and this stunning coastal landscape inspired the Sir Hotels chain to create the new Sir Victor Boutique Hotel in the thriving Eixample district, surrounded by all major architectural monuments – from the Sagrada Familia to Casa Mila designed by Gaudi .

The hotel is not accidentally called Sir Victor: it is a tribute to Caterina Albert and Paradis (Caterina Albert i Paradís) – a Catalan writer who was published under the male pseudonym Víctor Català. The architectural bureau Baranowitz + Kronenberg fully used this brilliant trick to create a design concept, combining feminine forms and brutal materials. Take a look, for example, at the walls of the lobby: they are forged from aluminum, but flow like fabric of a ladies’ dress.

The ceiling and the back wall of the reception area are dotted with metal balls that resemble beads of a necklace. The connection of the design concept with literature can be traced even in the appearance of the facade of the house, which resembles turning over the pages of an open book. It was invented and designed by the Barcelona studio Capella Garcia Architecture back in 2003.

Architects used maximum of natural materials inspired by the craft culture of Catalonia. The color scheme of the hotel smoothly flows from light to dark and vice versa, and rich accents in the form of decor and furniture give the interiors dynamics and express the individuality of each zone.

 

 

There are 91 rooms available for booking, each with premium furniture from B&B Italia and Cassina and decorated with paintings by Barcelona artist Bernat Daviu. The hotel also has a spa with indoor pool, a fitness room, a library and public areas for relaxation. The pearl of Sir Victor is a rooftop oasis with a pool, bar and stunning city views.

The panoramic view of Paris has become a starting point for the designers of Lally & Berger studio: floor-to-ceiling sliding glass partitions allow you to admire the “live pictures” of the city from any place of the room. “We wanted to emphasize what makes this suite so incredible: its exceptional location,” explains Luc Berger. “When you are here, Paris is at your feet, it is yours, and you will never be tired of admiring it.”

Over the past twenty years, Le Meurice’s interiors have been renovated several times. Now the hotel got a new look that’s a melange of 18th century classical style and contemporary chic. The designers just replaced the furniture in the style of King Louis XV with a more modern one and added a little naughty tone in a respectable atmosphere.

Luc Berger and Margot Lally went a different way: they invite the guests going up to the penthouse to travel in time, as if they were in the same hotel, but in a different century. In the past or in the future, it is not very clear.

“We decided that it should look like an urban mansion where every client can feel like it is their own,” says Margot Lally, “therefore we used the architectural language of Parisian houses: marble, parquet, wood panels, gilding, bronze door handles.”

The Tuileries Garden, located near the hotel, added another detail to the look. The 350 m² terrace is designed as a continuation of the garden. The suite has several botanical details – for example, the “branches” on a spiral staircase and a chandelier with crystal “leaves”.

The suite seems to hover between heaven and earth, with the interiors clearly closer to heaven. Pale gray-green tones predominate in the color palette, the carpet pattern resembles white clouds, the gloss of the brass details in the decoration is similar to sun glare. The Paris sky, which changes several times a day, is presented here in all its moods.
